His next four novels focused on the “great fictional monster of our time”, as horror author Stephen King once described Lecter. Harris has only written one non-Lecter book before: his 1975 debut Black Sunday, a thriller set around a planned terrorist attack on the Super Bowl, which was inspired by the 1972 Munich Olympics hostage crisis. Jason Arthur, publisher at William Heinemann, said: “There is no doubt in my mind that Thomas Harris remains one of the most notable writers of the last four decades, and the publication of his first novel in 13 years – his first non-Hannibal novel in over 40 – will be a significant publishing event.” The publisher described it as “standalone”, and confirmed that it will not involve Lecter. The novel, which was announced on Wednesday by publisher William Heinemann, is set for a global release on. He is an important American novelist and writes what he chooses, when he chooses.” It may not involve the Hannibal character at all. He is fascinating and cunning and as readers, we are drawn to a character like him who jumps out of the pages.In 2007, his agent Mort Janklow told Entertainment Weekly: “I have no idea what Tom’s next book will be. Lecter is as brilliant as he is portrayed in t.v. Yes, I know this novel is about Hannibal Lecter but Thomas’ writing focuses on so much more. The serial killers may be monsters but Thomas paints a world where there are a lot of people with shortcomings and lesser evils. Lecter is not the only villain and as in the first book Red Dragon, we see people with selfish motives almost jeopardize the mission. We are also shown that there can be bad apples on both sides. Sterling is a great protagonist and Thomas showcases how much more a female has to put up with.
There are a lot of things going on and a lot of focus on multiple characters that builds the suspense up perfectly. Harris has written a book that will leave you turning the page until the end. And Sterling has to figure out who Buffalo Bill is before he strikes again. That is not her only fear as she is warned Crawford will use her and toss her aside once everything is wrapped up.
That becomes twice as hard for her as her finals are around the corner. Time is not on Sterling’s side as she is given a few days to follow her leads.
